Elliott’s Hardware is happy to be in your neighborhood and we appreciate your business. If you get home with an item that does not suit your needs, we will do everything we can to refund or exchange it for the product you need. If you have questions about our policy, please ask to speak with a Store Manager.


  • Refunds must be accompanied by the original printed receipt or your Elliott’s Rewards online receipt or be able to be tracked through our system to the original purchase within 90 days.
  • Special orders may not be eligible for a refund or may require a restocking fee.
  • Some products require special handling if defective, and are not eligible for an over-the-counter refund or exchange. Such items include, but are not limited to; gas filled equipment such as lawn mowers, generators, and certain power equipment. 
  • Elliott’s is not responsible for any labor reimbursement for the application or installation of a defective product; however, the defective product may still be eligible for a refund or exchange.
  • Assembly and delivery fees are not eligible for refund.
  • Elliott’s reserves the right to limit or refuse any returns or exchanges.

Exchanges without an Original Receipt

  • If we are able to track your purchase through our system, and the purchase was made within the last 90 days, we will refund your purchase to the original form of payment as listed below. 
  • If you do not have a receipt and we are unable to track the purchase in our system, we may be able to exchange the item for a similar item of equal or lesser value.

Refunds or Exchanges with an Original Receipt

  • We will refund cash for cash purchases. 
  • We will refund cash or credit your debit card for debit card purchases. 
  • We will return your check to you for a check purchase made on the same day. If the refund is requested after the day of original sale, we will refund cash for a check purchase after a waiting period of 14 working days, and only if there are no outstanding checks with any Elliott’s Hardware store. 
  • We will refund credit card purchases back to the original credit card; card must be presented at time of refund request. 
  • Items originally purchased with a gift card will be refunded with a gift card. 
  • We will refund Elliott’s commercial charge accounts back to the same charge account used for the purchase.
  • Large cash and cash-equivalent refunds will require management approval.

Refunds and Exchanges for Live Goods

  • Although we do not offer a guarantee for plants, we are happy to return or exchange an item within 30 days of purchase if accompanied by the original receipt.

Refunds and Exchanges for Generators

  • Returns and exchanges of Generators are not accepted. Generators needing service must be taken to a manufacturer-authorized repair facility.
